Art is food for the soul and St Michaels Bistro in partnership with Artist Anthony Lewis-Churchill will be holding an auction on 17th May from 7pm in support of both local artists and to raise money for Painswick Recreation Ground.

Businesses and residents will be able to view over 20 artists work while taking in the picturesque surroundings at St Michaels Bistro and sampling some of the Cotswold produce available, which make up the dining experience on offer.

Magda Black, Proprietor of St Michaels Bistro, said: “Art is very much part of St Michaels heritage, my husband and I, Chef Matt Black, are from artistic families and grew up surrounded by inspiring art. It seemed only natural that we approached Anthony Lewis-Churchill who was one of the artists involved in the incredibly successful ‘ArtBurst Painswick’.”

Anthony Lewis-Churchill, Painswick artist and resident said “The art community in Painswick is thriving and Matt and Magda are so supportive of this expanding creative scene and the most generous hosts. Painswick has attracted so many artists and not surprisingly, the period architecture, the surrounding countryside…Who wouldn’t be inspired living here?”

Martin Williamson, Auctioneer on the evening, said:” Charity auctions are a wonderful platform to raise much needed funds for worthy initiatives. The Yew trees at St Marys church are the Heart of the community; so what better venue to hold the auction (St Michaels is opposite the church) while tasting the unique wine and artisan cheeses of St Michaels Bistro”.

Dawn Dart, Painswick Parish Councillor said “It’s fantastic to have all these talented artists coming together to support the recreation ground trust. Money raised will go towards the upkeep of the park and exciting new initiatives ‘Playpainswick’ to keep the play area fresh, exciting and up to date.”

Magda continued,” We have two children ourselves and we feel very fortunate to live in such an inspiring landscape. Hopefully through play and a happy childhood, our children will awake the creative spirit in them”.
